The Total Test Program
The goal of the Total Test is to provide rapid testing and treatment (STD, HIV, PrEP) at no cost to populations who are at high risk for HIV infection.
Part of Total Test is our Early Test, which can detect HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection. Additionally we are providing gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis testing through a self-swab collection system and blood draw. Results of rapid STD tests are available via text message or email in about three hours. If any of the STD tests are positive, we can provide free treatment or help you find a place for treatment.
If your HIV rapid test is negative, and you are interested in and qualify for PrEP, we will refer you to our I-PrEP program at
AVRC HQ. To learn more about I-PrEP, click here:
I-PrEP program. You will have a free blood draw to assess whether PrEP is safe for you to take. At AVRC HQ, a pharmacist will provide medication counseling and dispense a two-week supply of PrEP. You may receive up to 30 days of PrEP.
Eligibility Criteria
We have received an overwhelming response to our Good to Go campaign and Total Test. Thank you to everyone involved in making the campaign a success, especially participants!
At this time, our current funding permits us to offer the Total Test to people who meet the following criteria:
-
Age 18 or older
-
A person assigned male at birth having sex with other persons assigned male at birth
-
Available for follow-up for at least 2 weeks after enrollment
-
HIV status unknown or negative (as of their last test)
-
Last Total Test was 3 or more months ago
*If these criteria do not describe you, you may qualify for no-cost HIV testing via the Early Test at AVRC HQ or the San Diego LGBT Community Center (does not include STD or PrEP services). If you test positive for HIV, you will be offered treatment on the same-day of your office visit at no-cost.
